Proceedings of the dialogue symposium on efforts made by the government to combat contract marriage (tourism marriage) sponsored by Euro-Mediterranean women Foundation and IEMeD

Monday 25/3/2019, Life Foundation held a dialogue symposium on efforts made by the government to combat contract marriage (tourism marriage), and review the report of the campaign “Our Girls are not for sale” launched by Life Foundation in 2016-2017.

Within the Project of “Strengthening the capacities in the southern Mediterranean to initiate the policy dialogue and monitor the situation of women in the society”, CSO WIN funded by the EU and sponsored by IMeD and Euro-Mediterranean women Foundation. The conditions of underage girls at risk of the polygamous and contract marriage were monitored by Life Foundation; where it monitored and documented the cases in the governorates of Elsharkia, Ismailia, and Port Said and its prevalence by mapping of the cases at risk in the villages of these governorates. The symposium was moderated by Shabab ElSharkia Association represented by Mr. Ahmed Abdulmajeed – Chairman of the Board, Dr. Abdulsalaam Sharaf – Search consultant of Life Foundation, Ms. Rania Fayad – Monitoring and evaluation officer, Ms. Nermeen ElBahtyty – CEO, and Mr. Atef Hafez – the campaign manager. The attendees discussed the definition of the victim and the committer, government efforts, and networking, as well as recommendations made by attendees. Representatives of national councils of the governorates of Elsharkia, Ismailia, and Port Said, number of non-governmental associations, members of parliament, representatives of Ministry of Population and small, medium-sized and micro-entrepreneurs development body, and a number of officials of local city centers and syndicates.

The symposium held in Mashaallah hall in Nadi Alray.
