Life Foundation for Developmen selected to attend the preparatory process for a global agreement on safe migration

Members of the United Nations agreed to take on Life Foundation for Development and Community Integration to attend the preparatory process for a global agreement for safe, orderly and orderly migration as a civil society organization from Egypt.

The preparatory process for a global agreement for safe, orderly migration is the result of the adoption of the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants, which reflects the political will of world leaders to protect the rights of refugees and migrants, save lives and share responsibility for large-scale human movements in the world.

“This conference represents a breakthrough in our collective efforts to meet the challenges of human mobility,” said the Secretary-General of the United Nations. “The adoption of the New York Declaration means that; more children can go to school; more workers can safely seek to work in. Rather than being at the mercy of criminal traffickers, and that more people would have real options if they want to move away from their places at the end of conflicts, maintain peace and increase opportunities in their home countries.”

“I will start implementing the commitment of State Members to begin a process leading to a global agreement on migration, as well as support for a global refugee compact,” said UN General Assembly President Peter Thompson. “I will urge State Members to maintain such a high degree of ambition in all aspects of these processes, and to always strive for great goals. The fate of millions of refugees and migrants is on us. “

Through the adoption of the New York Declaration, State Members have undertaken bold commitments, including the initiation of negotiations leading to the convening of an international conference and the adoption of a global charter for safe, and orderly migration in 2018, as well as the development of guidelines on the treatment of migrants in fragile situations and the more equitable sharing of the burden and responsibilities of hosting refugees by the world, as well as support through the adoption of a Global Refugee Charter in 2018.

The agreement will seek to achieve

– Protecting the human rights of all refugees and migrants, regardless of their situation, including the rights of women and girls and promoting their full, equal and meaningful participation in finding solutions.

-Ensure that all refugee’s and migrant’s children have access to education within a few months of their arrival.

– Prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence

– Support countries that save, receive and host large numbers of refugees and migrants.

– Ending the practice of detaining children in order to determine their status as migrants.

– Strongly condemn the hatred of refugees and migrants and support a global campaign to confront them.

– To promote the positive contributions and reintegration of migrants in the economic and social development of their host countries.

– Improving the delivery of humanitarian and development assistance to the countries most affected.

It is worth mentioning that Life Foundation for Development and Community Integration has participated in providing legal assistance to many refugees (Syrians, Sudanese, Eritreans, Libyans, Ethiopians, Somalis) who have been imprisoned because of various charges in Egyptian prisons (El Qanater Prison) and their places of detention (Aswan, Alexandria) with the completion of correcting their legal status and the procedures to integrate them legally within Egypt and achieving the principle of coexistence within the Egyptian society.

Life Foundation for Development and Community Integration will participate in the meetings of the preparatory process for a global agreement for safe, and orderly migration. It will also discuss the most important legal, social, psychological and economic problems faced by migrants and prevent them from being subjected to detention in Egypt and Arab countries to reach solutions and proposals to amend  these problems.
